I thought I would share my favourite quotes with you. These have really inspired me in one way or another.
Don’t let a wishbone grow where a backbone should be. ~ Clementine Paddleford
This one is one of my favourites. It is very easy to live in a state of ‘hoping for better days’. Our culture teaches that good things come to those who wait. You can see it in the movies all the time – wonderful opportunities falling into the laps of hopeful people. I believe it is much better and far more profitable to lay your trust in God and then get out there and do something with your life! Don’t wait around for the perfect job, for a husband, for the lottery, for that holiday you always wanted, etc.. You can only get far in life if you persevere at it and work hard!
The words you speak become the house you live in. ~ Attributed to Hafiz
I believe that one needs to be very careful about speaking negative things over yourself and your life. God made the world with His words. In the old testament, men blessed and cursed and it always came true! Speak life over yourself and look for the good in every day rather than dwell on the negative.
Visit many good books but live in the Bible. ~ Spurgeon
This one speaks for itself! I think that the bible is the most important book ever. There are some Christians that read books about the bible and never develop their walk with the Lord properly. Rather read the bible and let God speak to you personally, instead of through someone else!
How we walk with the broken speaks louder than how we sit with the great. ~ Bill Bennot
I actually wrote a blog post a while back on my thoughts on this. You can read it here. 🙂
Comparison is the thief of joy. ~Theodore Roosevelt
When you compare yourself and your life to other people and their lives, you will surely lose your joy. It is very easy to fall into that trap with social media. I know because I have been there. I did it without realizing exactly what I was doing until the Lord opened my eyes. Be careful not to fall into such a trap. Rather remember that everyone posts their best moments online and that no one has a picture perfect life. We all go through messy stuff. Enjoy the little things in your life and live in a state of thankfulness.
The man on top of the mountain didn’t fall there. ~ Vince Lombardi
We all go through valleys; through hard times. Climbing a mountain ain’t easy! If we persevere, work hard and never give up, we will get to the top of the mountain; we will gain victory! God never leaves us during hard times. It is His promise to us. Hard times build character. I often think that many elderly people have such lovely character. Their character was not developed in a day. It takes a lifetime of struggles and hard work, but it’s worth it!
One of the happiest moments in life is when you find the courage to let go of what you can’t change. ~ unknown
I have found that is is very easy to hold onto things; to get wound up in situations we can’t change. I am learning to let go of what I can’t control and place it into God’s hands. It is such a relief to be able to lay our struggles and situations down and to place our eyes on Jesus instead. It takes the pressure off oneself. The peace and joy that comes from such a place is truly amazing and far better than stressing out and holding onto our burdens.
The only one that can truly satisfy the human heart is the one who made it. ~ unknown
This is so true. We will never find true satisfaction from things, people, or experiences. Our only satisfaction should come from our heavenly Father.
There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still. ~ Corrie Ten Boom
I love Corrie Ten Boom’s story! It is so inspiring. I know for myself that this quote is true. When we are in our deepest darkest pits, God extends so much love that it’s overwhelming. He really is there with us in the pain. When I have walked through difficult times, I have felt closer to God than ever before. It is really a beautiful thing and shows us the grace and love of our heavenly Father in ways we cannot comprehend.
Love is the root of missions; sacrifice is the fruit of missions. ~ Roderick Davis
Where there is love, there is going to be sacrifice. The two go hand in hand. In order to truly love another soul, we must lay down our selfish wants and desires and look to the needs of others. We must sacrifices our own needs and look to the example of Jesus who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The secret is Christ in me, not me in a different set of circumstances. ~ Elisabeth Elliot
I use to think that my life would be better if I was somewhere else doing something else. The grass always seems better on the other side. You know, wherever you go, you will encounter troubles and hardships. No one has a perfect life. The secret is truly in the way we view things. Viewing things through Christ’s eyes might not change the situation but it will surely change your perspective. Sometimes a different perspective is all you need.
Collect moments, not things. ~ unknown
I love this one! I think that collecting material things doesn’t improve ones life like having experiences and stories to tell does. I enjoy having a conversation with someone who has lots of interesting stories and experiences much more than listening to a person tell me about their latest gadget! 😉
